Radiation Monitors

Within the different types of radiation that exist in nature, ionizing radiation is an important energy group to measure and control in different work activities. Ionizing radiation is a form of energy that is released in the form of electromagnetic waves or particles when the spontaneous disintegration of certain unstable atoms occurs. These forms of energy are in various sources, both natural and artificial, from radioactive elements present in nature as well as in nuclear plants, or the medical use of said radiations for the purpose of diagnosis or therapy in our daily life. Usually radiation is found from electromagnetic waves such as gamma rays or X-rays, and radiation from particles such as alpha, beta or neutron particles. These particles can have a negative effect on human organs and tissues and therefore on the health of people. The affectation that a person exposed to this type of radiation may present will depend on the dose perceived by that person and the type of waves or particles to which he is exposed, causing effects such as reddening of the skin, radiation burns, long-term cancer term among others. For this reason it is important to always control the exposure and dose of people who work exposed to this type of energy, usually this energy is measured using equipment that delivers the amount of radiation in Sievert or microSievert units.
